Any advice out there on how to keep baby from getting a cold that mommy has (and baby is still nursing)? I started to feel like I might be getting sick yesterday, throat is a little scratchy & nose is a little runny. Overall, I feel okay, so it may still pass.....although Brannon started to feel it this morning too. So, does anyone have any advice on how to keep a baby from catching it??? I'm really worried she might get it, and I don't know if I'm ready for that yet! It seems hard b/c they are in close proximity to you all day when they are this little.....holding them, nursing, etc. UGH!! Say a little prayer that she doesn't get it (and also that it never really takes hold for Brannon & me!)

Everything I've ever read/been told by a doctor is to keep nursing them no matter what. They get the antibodies, etc. that your body is using to fight off the illness. I understand your fear, though, its scary when they get sick!!! Good luck, hang in there and wash your hands!!!
Nursing is the best way to keep her from getting it (aside from washing your hands incessantly). Milk will give her antibodies to fight it off.
M.P. got a cold as soon as we finished nursing, and it wasn't as terrible as I thought, so even if she does get it, the main thing that goes out the window is sleep.
Good luck!
Other than keeping clean and nursing, there's not much you can do. Once someone brings in sickness, most everyone will get it. She may not get anything since you're nursing or if she does, it might be milder. Ava was only sick for a day while I nursed her. Maya got a couple of mild colds but nothing too bad. Hope she stays well and you and Brannon feel better!
Keep nursing, wash hands a lot and try not to breathe in her face ... kiss her feet :) that's what I tell the boys and K's yet to catch one of their colds! PTL! Praying for you guys!
