Other Fun New Tricks

Besides taking some steps, Mackenzie is doing so many new things each day it seems, that it is hard to keep up with all of them on my blog!  Not to mention, she's an active little thing that keeps me from my blogging much more than the early days when she spent so many hours in a swing!  So, without further ado:

1.  She has been nicknamed the "Dirt Inspector" by my mom.  Ever since we went to visit them a month ago, she had started this wonderful trick where she'd find the TINIEST little piece of dirt on the floor.  Now originally, she was inclined to put it in her mouth - so I watched her carefully & tried to keep the floor as clean as possible.  But now, she throws her hand up in the air to show you what wonderful things she's found!  If your not around though, I think she still likes to put it in her mouth after thrusting it in the air.  So, I try to watch & grab it from her & say thank you!

2.  She waves 'Bye-bye' quite a bit now.  She's been doing it for about a month, starting pretty irregularly & not doing it on command.  But now, she'll do it at least half the time when someone says bye to her.  She also does it continually throughout the grocery store (well, alternating between waving at people and pointing at them!).  In fact, today, I snapped a picture because she turned herself completely around (while buckled) so she could see the oncoming traffic & wave/point!  And her face lights up with a smile anytime someone responds
to her wave/point and speaks to her (which happens most of the time!).

3.  She has started to sign "All Done" when eating her meals & taking her bottle.  This was the one sign I have been most consistent on & it has finally stuck.  I tried "More", but she so infrequently wanted more when she was pickier (this has SIGNIFIGANTLY improved) so I didn't do it as much!  Now, I think I should be doing a few more with her because it is so neat to have them be able to communicate before their little mouths can do it.

4.  She is trying to say "Uh-Oh" but she hasn't figured out how to say the OH sound, so after she drops something, she says "Uh-Uh".  It's really cute!  Then, if we say Uh-oh back to her, she'll try again & again, concentrating really hard to try and figure out how to make the right sound!

5.  And as mentioned in #3, she has really started to eat well (finally!).  Vomiting has (almost) stopped altogether (we had a set back last week in being able to say altogether).  She is getting on board with the finger foods & seems to be a little meat lover.  She enjoys chicken, beef, all types of bread/crackers, cheese, black beans (and other similar beans), and corn.  Surprisingly, she's not a fan of the fruits & alot of veggies - so we do alot of pureed versions of those still with real meat/cheese/bread.  I'm thrilled & have realized she just needed to do it in her own time even if it was slow.  So, now if she doesn't like something - I just don't do it for a week & try again.  It works too - she didn't like yogurt after I tried for a week, then stopped for a week, and this week she LOVED it!
