Well Rested

For two days now, Mackenzie has slept in* until 8AM. I feel wonderful! She has pretty much been a 7AM baby since she gave up her 6AM feeding (but the good thing about the 6AM feeding was she went back to bed til at least 8, once she slept til 7, no more going back to sleep!). Anyways, I had hoped that with the time change she would sleep til 8 - no such luck until a week later? Not sure the cause. But at least for two days, I have enjoyed it.

On the other side of the sleep story....Mackenzie still fights sleep periodically at bedtime. Last night she did NOT want to go to sleep. We have had to resort to letting her cry it out. I've not been the biggest fan of this (and Brannon is really not too good at it! Daddy is a softie!). We still rock her to sleep. I figure - all I hear from moms with older children is how they never get to hold them much anymore & cuddle. Well, I think I'll give up the ability to just put her in her crib (although that does sound nice at times!) for these fleeting moments in life when she wants me (or daddy) to rock her to sleep. However, if she wakes when going into the crib (like last night), I do not want to get her up and repeat the rocking seeing as how this could go on & on multiple times. For me (most of the time) once in crib.....stay in crib. (Although I do go in and give her a pacifier, pat her back, etc. Mommy is a softie too!). Last night when I went to give her her pacifier, she really picked up the screaming. I walked out when she wouldn't take the pacifier and was going to give a few minutes to cry before trying again. Brannon couldn't take it and went to rock her. But when she was back in her bed....crying again. He was getting frustrated and came downstairs & told me that he thought she needed to cry it out. I thought - wow, the softie is getting a little tough! I decided not to go in and give her the pacifier seeing as how I think she thought I'd pick her up if she screamed louder when I came in. We settled in to watch our Sunday show on DVR, but Brannon kept catching me looking at the monitor. She fought it for about 20-30 minutes, but eventually nodded off. That was HARD! But it worked..... Hopefully tonight will at least be shorter if she has to cry.

*Sleeping in is relative! 8AM did NOT used to be considered sleeping in!

I HATE that wake up and cry when put in the crib thing. MP only recently started doing that again - just for naps and just because she was with me (that's my theory anyway).

And yes - sleeping in until 8 is glorious! MP is rarely asleep after 7:00 a.m. But, considering she goes to bed around 7:30, I don't think I can complain.
