Not MY Baby.....

I'd heard of babies that don't breathe during tantrums.  Never thought MY baby would be one of them.  Well.....never say (think) never!  We had one isolated incident a couple months ago, but this past week it happened 3 times in maybe 4 days.  She doesn't pass out (yet), but turns purplish/blue and eyes kind of glass over when she starts breathing again.  Her body also gets kind of jerky while she's not breathing.  I've done some research.  As I had heard.....you basically are supposed to ignore it.  Not give in to their demands to avoid it (easier said than done).  Check with doctor in the off chance it's something else, but almost always is just something they outgrow, but I guess I need to call the doctor this week.  Another interesting thing I read & have observed is that it is involuntary.  Somehow I always thought that kids that did this, did it out of spite.  But it's more like she just gets really upset and can't breathe.  I'm just praying that this phase will pass quickly and not get any worse before getting better.

(Any blog readers been through this?  Feel free to comment about your experience!)

We are going through that now with Kennedy. Not something we went through with the boys. She knows how to throw a tantrum. I haven't called the DR yet but plan on bringing it up at her 15 month appointment this week. It's really rare that she throws such a deep fit but it does happen. We have tended to ignore it. Maybe I'll have some more advice after Friday :)

Talked to the Ped today and she said it was normal and common. In fact K did it while she was getting her shots. She said she has seen some kids actually pass out from not breathing. She said that when it happens to blow in their face to cause them to breathe. Haven't had to try it yet but I plan on it. Maybe it will help Mackenzie as well.
