Big Girl Changes

I took these pictures of Mackenzie on Saturday before we went shopping as a family because I thought she looked so grown up (okay....she looked like she wasn't a baby at least!).  In jeans and a cute top, it was like a really little person as opposed to a baby.  It is just so stinkin' cute to see her toddling all around.  Something about such a little person walking everywhere is the funniest/cutest thing EVER!

Anyways, there are other aspects of growing up that have me pondering some parental choices lately.....namely, when does one start time out?  I've been discussing with some of my other 1-yr old mommy friends, and Mady Kay (the oldest) has been having time out for a little while now and she seems to behave quite well, following directions like 'come here'.  Mackenzie.....not so
much.  I wondered if she is capable of understanding the direction.....if she is, she's choosing to do the opposite.  If not, she's not associated the two together.   Well, I have recently noticed a change that seems to indicate that she understands.  When I tell her no, she smiles and turns to do the opposite!  Then, often when I walk over to her to pull her away from the 'No' object, she giggles!  I think she's starting to realize that she can choose not to follow my directions.  We may have to give this time out thing a go.  I'll keep you posted on our progress - I really want her to learn to follow my directions :)

On another note, for the past month or so (I've been meaning to blog about it so I don't forget it!) she has this thing where she will whisper some of "Her" words to herself, like she's practicing saying things.  She does it alot when I pick her up from her nap.  A favorite is to practice her 'P=uh' sounds.  She'll whisper "p-uh, p-uh, p=uh" all the way down the hall til we reach her toys & she gets down to play!  It is so sweet!
